Mark Kukis began a writing career as a reporter for United Press International, where he served as a White House correspondent for the news agency from 1999 until 2001. In following years, Kukis traveled widely throughout the Middle East and South Asia to report on the conflicts in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Kashmir and Iraq. Kukis has written for Time, the New Republic and Salon. Kukis is originally from Texas, where he studied journalism at the University of Texas at Austin. Kukis currently lives in Boston, where he is a PhD student in American history and international relations at Boston University.
